Giving back probably isn’t at the top of any teenagers list this Holiday season, especially considering the holiday season is a really busy time for most families. Teenagers are busy with schoolwork and activities and friends and family (well, okay, maybe not so much with family). They may even have a job that keeps them busy during otherwise free time.

While the concept of giving back isn’t second nature for all people, it is something to consider if you want to inspire a giving nature in your kids, and if you want to inspire the feeling of a natural high. Nothing beats the feeling you get when you help other people. There are very few positive feelings that compare. And being in the Thanksgiving and holiday season gives families and teenagers a great opportunity to do so.

Carrie Silver-Stock, author of Secrets Girls Keep and founder of GirlsWithDreams.com says, “get outside yourself. … You can be true to yourself and give back to others, and there are many good reasons to do so. … Doing the right thing and helping someone just plain feels good.”
