Mid-adolescence - a time for learning
and growing and having fun with friends
Mid-adolescence is also a time of growing, learning and developing. Teenagers at this age are moving further from their parents and hanging more with friends. Friends are the major influencing factor during this time. Friends are role models and confidants. Parents don’t know anything, except when it comes time to learn to drive. But even then, teenagers still know more than parents.
Mid-adolescence is a time of experimentation. Teens will be faced with choices they haven’t been challenged with before. Choices include experimenting with alcohol and drugs, having sex, forming an identity.
This is also the time when teenagers are at highest risk for death. Teenagers have a much higher mortality rate than younger children, the leading causes being car accidents, suicide and homicide.
