During puberty, teens tend to engage in risky behaviors
Young adolescence, the preteens and young teen years, are still in that concrete thinking stage – things are either black or white. This is normal. They are beginning to realize consequences to their actions, anticipate what other people are thinking and imagine the possibilities beyond merely dreaming.
Young teens and tweens are supposed to begin pulling away from the family unit. At this stage it is more about friends than it is parents. But there is still that younger side that wants the security of family. Tweens and young teens will challenge their parents and the rules, they will question rules at home and at school.
Tweens and young teens believe there is a spotlight shining on them 24/7. This is why they will have a nuclear meltdown because of the tiniest pimple.
This is also a time of risky behavior. There is a certain invincibility tweens and teenagers believe they have. Nothing will happen to them and nothing parents say will convince them otherwise.
