Mid-adolescence from a teenager's perspective

Mid-Adolescence - figuring out who you are

Being 15 or 16 is all about trying to prove you’re old enough to have responsibility. Friends are the most important thing. You want to hang out with them all the time. They are your role models and your support system – you’d rather listen to your friends than to anyone else.

Parents are totally embarrassing. You will do anything and everything to do the exact opposite of what your parents want. Fashion is definitely a place to express yourself. If your parents can’t stand your clothes, you’ll wear even more extreme ones. If they can’t stand your hair, you’ll color it more bright and get a crazier haircut.

Guys may start wearing really dark colors. Girls will get into makeup and pretty, short clothes. Girls will probably have a sweet 16 – and being invited is really cool.

Your taste in music is still pretty much what your friends are listening to.

Driving is awesome. You’ll die to get your first car.

Your biggest concerns will be:

  • Will I get into college?
  • Do I want to go to college?
  • Am I cool?
  • Are other kids talking about me?
  • Should I try a beer?
  • Should I try a cigarette?
  • Is there enough time for studying and sports and everything?
  • Am I popular enough?
  • How can I make my parents happy / please them?
