I posted 15 of the best movies you can watch on YouTube for free some time ago here. They included The Hunt for Gollum, Skeletons in the Closet, and great short films, along with Older classics like Karate Kid Part 3 and Part 2, Billy Zane's Millions, A Star is Born, Farewell to Arms, The last Time I saw Paris, De Niro's The Fan, Jungle Book and Blackmail. Since then, there have been a few other movies that have been added to the site, and as the weekend is here, I thought you might appreciate a few more:
1) We are the Strange (note the implicit warning in the title, this IS a bit strange, great for some, and well, strange for others). We Are the Strange focuses on "two diametrically opposed outcasts" as they "fight for survival in a sinister fantasy world." These two outcasts are an abused woman named Blue who has a mysterious degenerative disease and a living doll named eMMM.
2) Animal Farm : Based on the book by George Orwell, this movie is an allegorical tale. Following the return of a drunken Mr. Jones to Manor Farm, the pig Old Major calls a meeting of all the animals. He tells them to revolt against Jones and to take control of the farm for themselves, calling for a life of equality and prosperity. Following his death that night, the two pigs Napoleon and Snowball assume command and the animals force Jones from the farm, singing a revolutionary song as they burn his possessions.
3) Buena Vista Social Club: The Buena Vista Social Club was a members club in Havana, Cuba that held dances and musical activities, becoming a popular location for musicians to meet and play during the 1940s. German director Wim Wenders captured the performance on film and this film became a huge hit.
4) Home: In the filmaker's words "HOME is an ode to the planet's beauty and its delicate harmony. Through the landscapes of 54 countries captured from above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an unique journey all around the planet, to contemplate it and to understand it. But HOME is more than a documentary with a message, it is a magnificent movie in its own right."
5) The Fan: The Fan is a 1996 American thriller film starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes. It was directed by Tony Scott and based on the novel of the same name by Peter Abrahams. The Fan is a psychological thriller that follows Gil Renard (De Niro), a baseball fan who progresses into his own insanity. The majority of the film revolves around the sport of baseball, and explores the overt dedication displayed by some of its fanatics.
6) La Bamba: La Bamba is an American biographical film written and directed by Luis Valdez. The picture features Lou Diamond Phillips, Esai Morales, Rosanna DeSoto, among others. The drama is based on the real life events that affected the lives of rock star Ritchie Valens, his half-brother Bob Morales, his girlfriend Donna Ludwig and the rest of their families.
7) Slacker: Slacker is a "uniquely-structured and seemingly plotless film", following a single day in the life of an ensemble of mostly twenty-something bohemians and misfits in Austin, Texas.
8) Super-Size Me: Super Size Me is a 2004 documentary film directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock, an American independent filmmaker. Spurlock's film follows a 30-day time period (February to beginning of March 2003) during which he only eats McDonald's food. The film documents this lifestyle's drastic effects on Spurlock's physical and psychological well-being, and explores the fast food industry's corporate influence.
9) Everbody's doing it: The MTV film explores the politics and difficulties of sex education for teens
10) One for the kids: Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie. This is a 2002 American computer-animated film based on VeggieTales, and is the first feature-length film in the VeggieTales series.
