These sleepboxes are nothing short of amazing to me. I've certainly been in situations at an airport where I was scavenging for any place to lay my head. The worst was a red eye flight from Los Angeles to Madrid, Spain that had a twelve hour layover in Philadelphia (bought the ticket a week prior). I arrived in Philly at roughly 3am PST and wandered aimlessly looking for empty benches to sleep on. Suffice to say I never found refuge. I ended up being awake for over 30 hours by the time I made it to my final destination of Malaga via train.
Where were you then Sleepbox? I would have paid and cared for you.
Where were we? Ah yes, Sleepbox. These things would have electronic access keys available for rental from 15 minutes to several hours. The inside would have a LCD TV, WIFI, power outlets for charging your lifelines, and the all important bed. The bed would have self-changing linens similar to how some airport toilet seats automatically change seat covers.
The Sleepbox dimensions are 2m x 1.4m x 2.3m (6.56ft x 4.59ft x 7.55ft). Larger or wider passengers don't seem to be accommodated as this time. Still a good idea nonetheless. The only suggestion I could provide would be to retrofit the inside with a bunch of UV lights that come on and sterilize all of the surfaces inside after each use. Either that or make the whole unit wash itself down with recycled hot water in a similar fashion as public toilets in Granada, Spain.
