Google announced today their plans to develop a social network out of their existing Gmail service. They are boosting their efforts to compete with Facebook, who reigns as the world's largest social media network.
Access to users of a social network would increase Google's advertising market. Currently Facebook is unsearchable by Google search. It is hoped that a U.S.A network will have the same popularity that they are having in other countries like Brazil where they already have a network in operation, Orkut.
Google has been a household name for years now. However, they continue to look for new ways to expand the brand name to remain at the apex of the online advertising market.
