Covert tissue box DVR is a chameleon in any decor

Tissue Box DVR Recluse
Tissue Box Camera (Translucent View)

I was recently given the opportunity to evaluate a digital video recorder cleverly concealed in a smoked plastic tissue box.  No big "shakes" at first glance but I was extremely impressed as I tested the device.  There are no tell-tale holes for the lens and no wires required (it operates on two long life rechargeable batteries that are included).  The picture shown here reveals a sort of half X-Ray translucent view so you can see how the hardware is arranged in the box, but it is totally undetectable in normal light.  Just fill the top of the box with tissue and you are set.

To test if the device is really undetectable in a variety of environments, I took it to several friends homes and to a couple of office settings and not one person ever noticed that it was there!  Amazing considering I introduced a foreign device in their home or office / cube.  They also did not seem to notice when I removed it!  This speaks volumes on the incredible job the designer did on making it look like something that belongs wherever you put it.

On top of all of that the programmability is hard to believe.  It can be set to activate by motion or to run continuously.  In addition, you can set it to only be motion activated or continuously run during certain days of the week and hours of the day to prevent recording information you are not interested in.  It supports a maximum SD card of 16GB (32 hours of continuous recording time) and two rechargeable Li-On batteries that will record 6+ continuous hours each (which again are included as well as the charger).  I found the batteries recorded considerably more than this in my testing.  There are so many features available on this fantastic device it is difficult to list them all in this review.

Just to name a few features, it has adjustable resolutions up to 720x480 and many different recording intervals including 1, 2, 3, 5, 13/15, and 25/30 frames per second.  Again, it has continuous recording mode, motion activated and manually activated using the included remote.  It has on screen display when the device is connected directly to an RCA video input source.  The SD card is removable and can be played back using Windows Media Player.

If all this is not enough, as a reminder, it comes with a USB to SD converter, a 2 GB SD card, a remote, two 6+ hour rechargeable batteries, a recharger, led indicators, a memory card storage box and I am sure other things I am forgetting.

In addition to the obvious security applications, I understand you can get some pretty entertaining images at the car wash and in hotel rooms as well!  Don't travel without it.

To quote Spy Chest:
" The tissue box emits no wireless signals that may or may not be stable within an already RF rich environment. Your video is safely stored within the removable SD memory card unlike some wireless camera systems that may be intercepted."

"Supporting Mpeg4 at 30 fps you may play back the video on your PC. Stored video on the SD card may be played on your PC in the convenience of your home or office. You can organize the files on your PC for later review. You may also email the files to to business associates, security professionals, law enforcement, family, friends, or loved ones."

I believe the price of $599.99 is very reasonable from Spy Chest as it provides security for your family and yourself that one cannot put a price upon.  Just one documented incident more than pays for this extremely advanced device.  I know I would never travel without it as I have had things disappear from hotel rooms, but with no evidence it can be difficult to prove.  Not any longer!

Wow! This is great. I was in Boston last month and had my Nikon camera taken out of my room. I am sure the staff had something to do with it but the manager insisted that they where not responsible for valuables left in the room. I had my camera pretty well hidden. If I had this secret camera it would have been a huge help in solving the theft. The Nikon was worth FAR more than this hidden video tissue box. To top it off, I was only gone from the room for 30 minutes while I went to the breakfast buffet. Fortunately, they left my laptop and other valuables, but who knows? Thanks Spy Chest!

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me. I was being taken advantage of from my maid. I bought one of these unit from www.deluxecctv.com for $329.00 and caught the maid stealing from our room. I just want to say, thanks to Deluxe CCTV and their great prices, I could afford to catch the person who was taking me in for my money. Thanks Deluxe CCTV

Is it easy to lift the top and reveal the camera inside or is the held closed with some an Allen screw?
