Princeton and George Washington University both have issues preventing iPad owners from connecting to their networks, according to this article from Livescience.  These problems are related to network connectivity and aren't due to bandwidth usage.

There have been no reported problems with iPads at Ohio State University, or any other Columbus-based college.

Princeton's problems with the iPad's DHCP client

A report from Princeton University details the iPad problem which is related to the iPad's DHCP client not releasing their assigned IP address on the university's network when required.  The iPad allows the leased IP address to expire, but continues to use the same address until the device is removed from the network.

The staff at Princeton determined they could recreate the problem by allowing the iPad to lock its screen before the DHCP renewal time.  It appears they've found a bug in iPhone OS 3.2 and it has been reported to Apple.  In the meantime, Princeton has banned approximately 20% of the iPads from their network.

GWU's network can't authenticate iPads or iPhones

The problem at George Washington University is network authentication related, as both iPad and iPhone users are unable to login to that university's network.   A university spokesperson said that it could be up to a year before the iPad and iPhone are supported on their network.

While other universities have reported bandwidth-usage ramp-up once the iPad showed up on their networks, the problems experienced at Princeton and George Washington University appear to be unique, although the DHCP issue Princeton found looks to be a fixable one for Apple.

Have other networks had this problem with iPhones or iPod Touches?

The DHCP problem appears to be with the iPhone OS 3.2, which appears like it is only available for the iPad - at least I wasn't able to upgrade my iPod Touch to it.
