Known by some as the “Facebook for Feds,” GovLoop hits the one¬year milestone this summer, already connecting more than 14,000 members of the government community and encouraging open government internationally. To celebrate recent accomplishments along others in the Government 2.0 community, GovLoop is teaming up with local iStrategyLabs and Kidd Group to toast the multilogue during the “Summer of Gov” in Washington D.C., July 16, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m.

During this post-work cocktail reception held at D.C.’s popular Local 16 restaurant and bar, Summer of Gov guests will celebrate GovLoop’s one-year anniversary. In conjunction, they will cheer another milestone in the history of Gov 2.0: The winners of the Apps for Democracy "Community Edition" wrapped on July 1, 2009, honoring the talented citizen technologists building open government, “byte by byte.”

“Overall, it’s been a big year for Gov 2.0,” Steve Ressler, the founder of GovLoop, told me. “We are celebrating a year of connecting the government community and honoring the 14,000-plus brilliant GovLoop innovators who are sharing ideas and leading change across all levels of government in the U.S. and across the globe.”

In its first year alone, GovLoop established itself as the premier social network for connecting the government community, gaining members by the thousands and attention from government thought leaders. GovLoop.com also won the prestigious “Federal 100” award and  was a finalist for the 2009 American Council for Technology “Intergovernmental Solutions Award.”

While East-coast fans attend the D.C. Summer of Gov event, West coast followers can remain “in the loop” by attending the San Francisco Gov 2.0 Club / GovLoop Anniversary Party “West,” on July 14, 2009, 6 p.m., at 111 Minna Gallery. This event is hosted by Adriel Hampton, Gov20radio.com Producer and avid GovLoop user.

For more information on the D.C. event, visit SummerofGov.EventBrite.com. Summer of Gov “West” information can be found at SummerofGovSF.EventBrite.com. Attendance is free but limited, and sponsorships are available. To learn more about how you can join the open¬government conversation, visit GovLoop.com.
