It is not surprising that our economic slump has sparked a lot of entrepreneurial activity across the country. Many intelligent people who used to have busy jobs, have found themselves with much free time on their hands, which has prompted a number of entrepreneurial ventures.
Certain startup companies are doing really well despite the slump. One of them is Justin.tv, a live video-streaming service launched in 2007 by Justin Kan.
Another is SF Enterpeneur, whose president, Edith Yeung, is also the executive producer of the BizTechDay conference. Both these companies have found a way to grow, by providing a tangible service to other startups.
The BizTechDay conference, which will take place in October 22-23 in San Francisco, is all about helping small businesses use technology to grow their business, says Edith Yeung. Justin.tv will be there as well, live-streaming the event. Thanks to live-streaming, anyone in the world can watch live conference sessions, from the comfort of their couch.
Everyone has different learning styles, says Edith Yeung. Some people will watch the conference and startup competition from home. The choice is there.
Evan Solomon, VP of Marketing for Justin.tv, is equally excited about partnering with BizTechDay. His company is all about the power of live video, he says, which is much harder to do than archive video. Evan says Justin.tv allows live interactivity, which has the potential to bring together audiences from across the world.
Both these entrepreneurs believe in the power of live knowledge exchange. For tons of people who can’t afford to fly cross country to attend a live event, live-streaming will be the next best thing. A few lucky winners will also get a “flight to success” scholarship to BizTech day through Virgin America, who will offer a limited number of free flights and conference passes.
Be it prompted by passion or by the need for survival (or both), the entrepreneurial spirit is a path to economic recovery. Helping startups helps the economy and these two companies are reaping the rewards.
