The Automobile Association of America (AAA), a leader and advocate for the safety and security of all travelers, has just unveiled a FREE iPhone app designed to accelerate getting assistance during roadside emergencies.
According to the announcement, the AAA Roadside Assistance app leverages the iPhone's built-in location-based services capability to quickly send vehicle location, description, specific vehicle problem and other detailed information directly to AAA.
The user also has the option to place a voice call, and once the request is submitted, the AAA member receives a confirmation that his/her information was received by AAA Roadside Assistance.
Furthermore, the app also has a "While You Are Waiting" feature, that can be used to search for nearby AAA Approved Auto Repair shops, Hertz rental locations offering AAA member discounts, AAA Approved accommodations, AAA offices and retail locations with discounts on auto parts and more.
Each search displays key information for each location, such as the name, address, phone, distance from location, routing map, driving directions and a summary of the discount details. For those who are not AAA members, the app also has a Join AAA feature.
It is easy to see where this "must have" app will make AAA members who don't have an iPhone jealous. The announcement didn't mention if there were plans to port to other platforms like the BlackBerry or Palm Pre.
