Pushing the innovation in technology, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) developed an application for Apple’s popular device allowing users to play music, engage audience feedback of the museum’s collection of African art, according to the news release.
Mia became the second American art museum to develop an application for the iPhone. The Brooklyn Museum launch a similar application earlier this year setting the stage for museums to collect information from museum lovers and fans.
The application extends the experience of the exhibition for users, on and off site capturing data and feedback from museum lovers. The application is available from the iTunes store as a free download.
The application integrates information about the objects in the exhibition. As part of this easy to use application, it features a lamellophone (kind of thumb piano), which allows to play with one of the objects in the exhibition at the museum.
This application was launched in conjunction to the innovative project called “iAfrica” that seeks to explore and understand African art.

Very cool.
The name of the app is not mentioned in the article... nor whether it is also available for iPod Touch (presumably it would be...). Searched for the app today, to no avail. Is the app not active or fully supported yet?
Chris M: The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) has the following statement that i copied for you "The museum says that iAfrica should be available at Apples online iTunes store within the next few weeks." The application will be part of iAfrica theme for MIA and no official word on the release.
Will post an update when its fully available. Thanks for the comments.
