DoApp in its early stages before specializing in mobile applications has its roots in website widget development. Then quickly experimented with some iPhone apps called MyLite or MyLighter, which were among the top download in the app store around the time the iPhone became the trend setter for smart phones.

The company was taking form in March 2008, and initially perceived as an iPhone company, yet more was in stored in the near future: mobile technology development.

“Originally I started the company called PagePow about three or four years ago, which specialized in website widget development,” said DoApp Founder Joe Sriver. “Doapp took form in March 2008 to transition from website widgets to mobile development.”

Joe not only founded the company but previously employed at Google as its first user interface designer. In addition, he designed many of Google’s products including AdSense, Video, Print, Images, and Groups.

CEO Wade Beavers joined the company in March 2008 with previous working experience with IBM. Wade from the onset of the interview stated that mobile development and social engagement were the keys to making their apps unique and optimal.

“We were one of the first companies to have in our apps the ability to share Twitter, Facebook and email,” said DoApp CEO Beavers. “That was our cutting edge technology and outside of us who were doing a similar thing was U.S.A Today. The next thing we did was set the standard when we talked about the social engagement as we implemented user generated content.”

Wade emphasized that news properties struggled on how to distribute information and reinforced the company’s belief about going mobile. News companies from around the time DoApp was born had still ignored the explosive growth of mobile technology and its users. This lack of recognizing were the news consumption and distribution took place would only benefit DoApp.

How many local outlets are using DoApps services? According Wade Beavers interview story with PBS.org they have about 120 or so news apps in the store and about 185 signed, so another 50 news apps will hit the market.

Two of the quintessential things DoApp did well was invest in mobile technology, especially with touchscreen phones becoming so prevalent and popular among consumers. Integrating social media networking completed the formula where mobility and the social dominate the internet.
