DoApp Inc, based of Minnesota, announced its Mobile Local News (MLN) from several media outlets has reached the plateau of one million downloads. DoApp’s development of hundreds of local news applications from different parts of the country became an instant success.

The company with a team in Minneapolis and Rochester has clients from TV news stations, newspapers, online publications and radio. Since DoApp joined the App store back in 2008, smart phones became the forefront of communications and how consumers get their news online. It was only a matter of time for the company to reach new heights considering how rapidly the news business changed.

This success is part due to developing its applications for the iPhone and the Android platforms. The competition between Apple and Google will remain a dead heat especially because of the success of the Android OS with several carriers and devices. The sales and traffic from Google’s Android is gaining on Apple’s popular device.

According to Electronista.com. Android achieved a 77 percent gain in ad impressions month-over-month analysis. Since January 2010, Android impressions grew 282 percent. This can be attributed to Android’s availability on smart phone makers like HTC, the G1 and My Touch.

With rumors of a new iPhone yet to be released, Google capitalized on sales of its operating system making it accessible with more than one company, something that Apple has been criticized for since its exclusivity with AT&T. Apple has had a runaway success with the iPad because it changed its strategy from its predecessor: the first generation iPhone.

DoApp has not developed any specific apps to date for the iPad, but some of their existing portfolio of applications for the Apple’s smart phone is compatible on this new media device. The company developed the Local Mobile News app in April 2009, and a year later has become one of the most popular applications for mobile use.

The news industry going through changes with Mobility and social media, with time and due diligence the formula to support the once successful enterprise of news will come back in a different platform and through a different technology.
