Store tea in airtight containers - photo origami tea tins
To safeguard your precious investment in gourmet loose tea, it’s important to keep it sealed, airtight and away from moisture and strong aromas from herbs and spices. When stored properly, tea can remain fresh and flavorful for up to a year. As soon as you buy loose tea, transfer it from its original packaging unless it comes in an airtight container.
Tea Storage Guidelines
- Keep loose tea away from light sources—indoor and sunlight. Resist the urge to store it in glass canisters or see-through decorative containers. Loose tea loses its color when exposed to prolonged light.
- Each variety of loose tea should be stored separately in airtight containers. Place in tea tins and store in cabinets or cupboards at room temperature. Avoid sudden and extreme temperature changes.
- Do not store in the refrigerator as moisture will seep in and ruin the tea.
