Loose tea - photo by Althea DeBrule
While the proper amount of tea varies from person to person and is a matter of taste, a good rule of thumb is to use one teaspoon of loose tea per cup or just enough to produce great tasting tea. If one teaspoon is too weak for your taste; then increase the amount by one quarter of a teaspoon each time you make a cup until it reaches the desired flavor.
Some tea blends like Earl Grey, Jasmine and other strongly scented varieties may require only a few grams to make a great cup; so you should experiment until you’ve arrived at the amount that suits you. Determining the right amount of loose tea to use may mean that you’ll have to make a cup several times a day but the fun is in the experimentation; so enjoy it.
