Paper loose tea filters to make your own teabags
Buying loose gourmet tea and making your own tea bags is a better value than purchasing packaged tea bags. According to many tea afficianados, a pound of loose tea will yield from 220 to 300 teabags depending on the type and amount of tea recommended for steeping.
There are many advantages to making your own tea bags, chief of which is that the proper amount of gourmet tea can be measured and packaged in advance for easy use on-the-go, in the office or when enjoying a well-deserved tea break.

Steeping tea in a do-it-yourself teabag
Natural and unbleached paper tea filters are needed to make tea bags. They come in small or large sizes in packages of 50 or 100 from $5 to $10 (about $.03 to $.05 per prepared tea bag). Designed to brew a cup to full pot of tea, loose tea filters allow for even infusion and better steeping, and do not affect the tea’s taste. They are also biodegradable and easily disposable.
To make tea bags, simply add the recommended amount of loose tea to the paper tea filter and fold. To use, place in a tea cup, mug or teapot, let the excess filter hang over the side and pour in hot water. Remove tea filter after steeping.
About the only drawback to making your own tea bags is preparing too many in advance of use, which could reduce the tea’s freshness unless sealed in an airtight container.

This is so true... You can pay up to 10 times less per serving of premium tea by ditching the bag and "steeping it loose" - and get even more ecological by using a re-usable tea infuser. Great post!
Yes, let's be aware that tea bags of any kind are hard on the environment. Loose leaf tea is often produced in a cleaner way and is increasingly available as certified organic too. Get yourself a strainer that allows a lot of room for the leaves to unfurl, like a full-cup size.
