THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. INSTEAD OF MICROCHIPPING, A NAIL CLIPPING EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE. DETAILS COMING SOON...
Consider your pet's safety before hurricane season. Is he or she current on vaccinations? Do you have correct addresses and phone numbers on their collar tags?
The best way to relocate a lost pet is to have them microchipped.
Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique in New Port Richey, Florida will host a pet microchip event for the SPCA Suncoast on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Pet owners are asked to donate $20 for each pet to be microchipped. SPCA Staff will be doing the simple procedure, and Marilyn Wolf, Pet Trainer and Behavior Consultant will assist. All dogs must be leashed. Those dogs or cats that cannot be controlled by a leash must be contained in an appropriate cage, crate or other device. All dogs and cats must be current on all vaccinations.
Microchipping is a permanent method of pet identification that involves injecting a microchip under a pet’s skin between its shoulder blades. The chip contains a unique identification number and is small enough to be quickly injected with a hypodermic needle. When animals enter a shelter they are immediately scanned with a microchip detector that reads the microchip number and displays it on a screen. The number is called in to a 24-hour hotline to identify the pet’s owner. Unlike a collar and tag, which may be lost or removed, the microchip is a lifelong identification system, as long as you continue to update your contact information.
