Known for its Romeo and Juliet fame, Verona is one of the most fascinating cities in Italy. Unfortunately many tourists miss it, choosing to head for the more popular destinations of Rome and Venice.
Over the next week my column will highlight some features that will make you fall in love with this beautiful Italian town.
The famous Giardino Giusti is one of the oldest gardens in Italy. Created at the end of the 15th century, it represents the typical Rennaissance-style. It was built as a backdrop for the Giusti Palace, the former home of Agostino Giusti, knight of the Venetian Republic.
The lush greenery is a haven of peace and tranquility. It features mythological statues, fountains, grottos, tall cypress trees, and tubs filled with floating water lilies. There is even a small labyrinth to explore. If you climb up to the monster balcony (pictured), you will have a spectacular view of the city.
If you are ready for a break from the hustle and bustle of Verona, Giardino Giusti is the perfect location.
Giardino Giusti is only a 15-minute walk from the city center. There is a $5 admission charge.
Upcoming: Verona’s Roman Arena
