There are 5 days until the 12th World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is going to kick off in San Francisco, California. Dr. Effie Chow, founder of World Congress is very excited to announce the winners of this year’s World Congress Awards. According to Dr. Chow, a 6-person working committee has worked long and diligently to select and vote on this year’s recipients. There are ten different awards. Except the Award of TCM School of Excellence is for an institute/school, the other nine awards are for individuals who have not only accomplished tremendously in his/her professional knowledge and skills but also contributed greatly to the social services. Dr. Chow is extremely pleased to see a few young leaders to win the awards. She believes that they are representing a new generation and bringing new energy and ideas to the global Chi Gong and TCM community. .

Tai Chi master of the Year 2010: Sifu May Chen
May Chen is an internationally recognized martial artist and Tai Chi instructor, teaching primarily at the Fremont Adult School, Ohlone College. She also serves as the President of the Health Qigong Association USA. In 2005 a severe knee injury threatened to end Chen’s career altogether, until a tissue transplant by AlloSource gave her new hope. Her knee was saved after she received a fresh tissue transplant from a young donor. Since her transplant, Chen has returned to martial arts competition with continued success. She serves as judge in international competitions in the Bay Area and in 2006, as a member of the U.S. Wushu team, Chen won two individual World Championship medals in China.

Chinese Medicine/Qigong Master of the Year 2010: Dr. Philip Yang
Dr. Philip Lei Yang, the founder of Nine Star University of Health Sciences is also the founder of China Yuan Gong, an integrated Chinese traditional and contemporary Qigong, specialized in medical Qigong. Master Yang, originally from Luo Yang, China, graduated from a local Normal Institute in China and possesses a master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in the US. He is a licensed acupuncturist. He was enriched with the Zen Buddhism in the temples of Ling Shan, Whitehorse, Fahua, and many others in China. He followed more than twelve famous masters in China. Some examples of his masters include Master Ling Nan Zi and venerable Master Yuan Zhao. Guided by advanced masters, he has been systematically trained for supernatural abilities, including clairvoyance, remote diagnosis, remote healing and more. Master Yang is a highly decorated Kung fu and Qigong practitioner. He holds a Seventh Degree Black Belt in these martial arts, as recognized by the World Martial Arts and Qigong Federation. In China, he dedicated much time in free clinics helping thousands of people for their sickness.

Martial Artist of the Year 2010: Shi Yanran
Shi Yanran is Director of Shaolin Temple USA, San Francisco, California. Under the leadershipn of Master Shi YanRan—34th generation Shaolin Temple Buddhist Monk, a team of Shaolin Temple Kung Fu Monks is now stationed at Shaolin Temple USA to carry on the 1,500-year old traditions and training disciplines of Shaolin Temple. Their mission is to share Shaolin culture with the American people. Shaolin Temple USA teaches Shaolin Chan (Zen) Philosophy through the core Shaolin disciplines of martial arts or action meditation: Kung Fu (Gongfu) and Chi Kung (Qigong).

Qigong Master of the Year 2010: Chunyi Lin
Certified International Qigong Master with a master's degree in Holistic Healing. He is the founder and creator of Spring Forest Qigong and has taught over 120,000 people his healing techniques. He is the Director of the SFQ Center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota where over 100 people have appointments each week, from places all over the world. He is the co-author of a #1 Amazon.com best-selling book, "Born A Healer", and co-author with Dr. Nisha Manek of the Mayo Clinic of a chapter on qigong in the "Textbook of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Second Edition".

Scientist of the Year 2010: Michael Irwin, MD
Dr. Irwin is Norman Cousins Chair for Psychoneuroimmunology at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and is Director of the Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. He is also Professor of Psychology at UCLA, Director of the UCLA Training Program in Psychoneuroimmunology and Mental Health, Past-Chair of the UCLA Collaborative Centers for Integrative Medicine, and member of the Advisory Board of the UCLA Center on Aging as well as the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. His present research program includes investigations examining the capacity of mind-body interventions such as Tai Chi to improve insomnia and depressive symptoms in older adults, as mediated by inflammatory mechanisms.
Media Excellence of the Year 2010: David Dorian Ross
David Dorian Ross, aka Dr. Taichi, is an American Tai Chi Champion and fond of Full Circle Fitness and Full Circle T'ai Chi Academy. He has been succesfully using multi-media as means to educate people about Taichi, Chi Gong, and Fitness. He has produced award winning videos for Taichi teaching. His Taichi Minute has provided free training to tens of thousand people on line. This year, Dr. Taichi spends volunteers his time, knowledge and money to provide a 24-hour marathon of live streaming of World Taichi & Chi Gong day celebration around the globe.

Miracle Client of the Year 2010: John Kyle
Each year, the World Congress selects a patient who has been cured by either Chi Gong or the Traditional Chinese Medicine. John Kyle lives in San Francisco with his wife Ann. He installs exhibits in San Francisco convention center. Diagnosed in 1999, John had chronic hepatitis C for 10 years, went through 2 separate year long interferon treatments and each time treatment was completed the virus returned immediately at a higher viral load.. With each repetition, chances for successful outcome diminished. In 2008, he began a third year long treatment of interferon, this time began practicing Chow Qigong and completed Chow Qigong Level One training. Tested 6 months after completing treatment and viral load was zero indicating a complete cure from Hepatitis C. Now 18 months later he is still virus free and has a whole new life!

TCM School of Excellence of the Year 2010: American College on Traditional Chinese Medicine/Lixin Huang
American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) has been at the forefront of Traditional Chinese Medicine education since its inception in 1980. Its two degree programs—the Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) and the Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM)—provide a truly exceptional professional education. Its community clinics serve as a diverse and demanding training ground for our students, while also providing affordable health care services to the community. Additionally, ACTCM’s certificate programs in Tui Na and Shiatsu and its introductory classes for the public offer further opportunities for study to current ACTCM students, healthcare professionals and the general public.. World Congress also wants to make a special mention of Ms. Lixin Huang, the President, of the College as she has for many years worked hard through many trials and tribulations to get the college to reach their mission and trained many outstanding TCM doctors. Ms. Lixin Huang also volunteers in many charitable organizations including American Red Cross. Yesterday ACTCM celebrated their 30th Anniversary which marked an important milestone for the college.

Humanitarian of the Year 2010: Robert Plath
Robert W. Plath, an attorney, is the founder and Executive Director of the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance and International Forgiveness Day celebrated each year on the first Sunday in August. Established in 1996, The Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the principle that the energetics of forgiveness promote physical healing and psychological equilibrium. In a recent address to the American Bar Association “Healing and the Law”, Bob described how the practice of law can be humanized and made more successful through the use of forgiveness. As an advocate, teacher and healer, Bob has taught forgiveness at the Marin Services for Women, San Quentin Penitentiary and other institutions for over 30 years. He uses diverse experiential techniques to create the healing experience of forgiveness for oneself and others.
