Gertrude ‘Luna’ Vachon, former WWE star, found dead in Florida
Former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Gertrude “Luna” Vachon died Friday morning in Florida. Her mother reportedly found her body at about 10 a.m. She was 48-years-old.
She was a forceful presence in the WWE from 1993 to 2000 and was notorious as the girlfriend of fellow wrester of Bam Bam Bigelow, according to TMZ.
Vachon was born in 1962 and she began her wrestling career in 1986. She hailed from a family of Canadian wrestlers, including her father Paul “Butcher” Vachon, aunt Vivian Vachon, and uncle Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon, who were all successful professional wrestlers.
Luna Vachon’s nickname was the “Daughter of Darkness” and was known for her partly shaved head, face paint, and intimidating wrestling style. In recent years she worked as a tow truck operator.
The WWE said in a statement “World Wrestling Entertainment has been made aware of the passing of Gertrude (Luna) Vachon. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the Vachon family.”
An autopsy is scheduled to take place over the weekend, however, authorities told the online tabloid that they do not believe there was foul play involved in Vachon’s death.
She is survived by two sons and two granddaughters.
