On December 21,1996 - Singer Extraordinary Tony Bennett was rushed to a D.C. hospital for an emergency operation for an erupted hernia. Bennett was just arriving at the White House for a holiday dinner with President Clinton and Mrs. Clinton when he fell ill.
Tony
recovered nicely, and at 83 he is still out singing the songs of the Great American Songbook.
