  While the Allied troops advanced across France and Belgium enroute to Nazi Germany  (D-Day June 6th, 1944), the most popular songs of the soldiers, and the folks at home, were as listed below. Bing Crosby (photo) and Ella Fitzgerald were the King and Queen of the singers...with multiple hits.. Note that Nat Cole's recording of Straighten Up And Fly Right was listed as by The King Cole Trio. Bing scored big with the Van Heusen-Burke happy tune Swingin' On A Star from his movie "Going My Way."  The song also won the "Best Song" Oscar.
