Just voted the 'Best Big Band in the Land’ for the 12th consecutive year, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra’s popularity in Great Britain continues to go from strength to strength.
Band leader Chris Dean said that the new show for 2010 offers an evening filled with some of the most distinctive music from the genre. It features the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Billy May, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald.
The music will be combined with the usual audience banter when they play at Peterborough, England's Key Theatre on Thursday January 21 at 7.30pm. All seats are £16.50. The following week they play Newport, Wales's The Riverfront for two performances on Saturday, January 30 at 3pm and 7.30pm. Tickets for the show cost between £8 and £15.
Also, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra’s latest album Strictly Big Band has been well received by many critics.
Another top Big Band touring England is the Nick Ross Orchestra. The NRO performed in October at the prestigious Haymarket theatre in London. As stated before, the music of the Big Band Era (1935-45) is alive and well in the UK.
