Well, on the eve of the release of the Season 4 DVD Box set it seems only appropriate to mention it one more time prior to its release, September 1.
The box set will be on sale at your local stores
Target and
Best Buy among others. The Target set is offering a free
Comic Con DVD with the set while Best Buy is offering some sort of limited packaging and claims there are only 4 per store. The free Comic con DVD sounds more appealing than the special packaging, things that make you go hmm ...
The Box set is retailing in the $30's for its first week but usually rises after the first week and expect to pay over $40 for the BluRay set.
Watch a promo for the new box set release:
After doing the math it did make a good deal after adding up how much it would be to purchase the autograph items separately.
The Gold and Silver passes were sold out. The photo OP's for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were also sold out.
While sitting in on the
Misha Collins Q&A, it has become clear this is a great guy, his personality and humor were a nice surprise. He brought his wife and sister to the con with him as well as Supernatural staff, which could fondly be called 'handlers'.
Creation Entertainment sets up question sheets to pre-screen questions, however, Misha requested 'LIVE' questions and that just opens up a can of worms. It's amazing the level of absurdity that can be reached when some questions are asked. For example, 'If you were severely maimed in an accident and lost both your legs ...." you get the idea! It's a fan's one opportunity to actually speak to this actor you watch on a show you enjoy and you roll out questions like that, what the heck? That questions wasn't even one of the worst. Now, there were opportunities during the Jensen panel and the combo Jensen/Jared panel that some fans asked questions live and this Examiner is still shaking her head ... Jensen and Jared both had to endure some horrible questions, as well, some bordering on rude and inappropriate. Now, on the other hand there are some genuinely good and insightful questions asked of the actors, too! So, bravo to those fans, well done.
The
Jake Abel panel was surprisingly enjoyable. He played the surprise 'third Winchester' brother in the Season 4 episode "Jump the Shark" -- his character was actually dead before the episode started with a ghoul taking on his appearance. He has a nice on stage presence about him and conveyed a hilarious tale or two of things that happened during his two week filming gig with the show.
Jim Beaver who plays Bobby Singer walked on stage dressed like Castiel and earned some hoots and laughs. Jim is very personable with the fans and is down to earth.
There's a lot to see and do and sometimes certain panels were planned on top of other happenings, so you would have to decide what you wanted to do. If you bought a photo OP ticket and then an activity was happening during that time you wanted to see you failed to see it while you waited in the cattle line to have your two second
photo OP experience. It's not an over exaggeration in calling it a cattle line or saying two seconds. Your Supernatural TV Examiner decided to brave the experience and paid for a Misha Collins photo OP. The line stretched around a corner and kept going, you get the idea. You walk up he puts his arm around you say 'hi' and 'thank you' and away you go, all done. You're walking out of the room and thinking 'hey wait, that just happened right' it's over so quick once you're in the photo room that it's a blur. Your Supernatural TV Examiner, of course had the presence of mind to listen during the Misha Collins panel that was held prior to the photo OP with him when they said we only have time for couple more questions this Examiner was out the door and upstairs before the line was too bad. There were seven people already there. Of course, no matter how early you get there you're still waiting on the Gold and Silver pass holders who are getting their photo OP's first but all in all with arriving early to the line prior to the horde, it only took about 25-30 minutes give or take. Now, those at the back of the line, we're looking at a good hour or more.
There are more conventions planned by Creation Entertainment: Los Angeles and Vancouver again and should be a good time. There was a fan promoted petition in Italy to hold a convention there and here is an enticing promo video for it and if Rome sounds like fun check out the
Jus in Bello Convention (yep, named for an episode from the third season).

Now, on the spoiler front, here is the latest summary for the second episode of the new season:

Just to note, the Creation con tickets do NOT include a photo op in the price. Everyone has to buy those separately. The Gold and Silver ticket holders do have one autograph of most (but not all) guests included in the ticket.
Hi Liza,
Yeah, I sort of put the cart before the horse on that one. I meant to say autograph's not Photo OP's. The changes have been made. It still amazes me how much money some of the con attendees were spending. The auction items that went for over 300 and 400 bucks, too rich for my blood.
