Obama can't hide from the power of the web

As I've noted in previous blog posts, thank God for the Internet. Due to its speed, decentralization, relative cheapness, and near freedom from government regulation, it is revolutionizing the way news and political opinion is shared.

It also is providing one of the best modern tools at keeping that necessary eye on the government and our elected officials (which is why the feds are eager to get their grubby hands, eyes, and ears all over it). In this digital age where everything can be recorded and subsequently dug up in a heartbeat emerges this video of then presidential candidate Barack Obama in a campaign speech just over two years ago.

It is a common axiom that politicians will say anything to get elected. What is more surprising is the number of people that believe them.

In ten months, Obama's promise to "get our troops home...and bring and end to this war" has turned into deciding not whether to send more troops into suicide missions in the Afghan mountains, but how many troops should be sent.

Don't forget about the western half of Pakistan either, where there are over three million refugees as the war in Afghanistan leaks over into Pakistan's borders. Obama's incessant and cowardly drone strikes sure aren't helping either.

He did receive the Nobel Peace Prize award, however, which is probably why coverage of the Obamawars in the mainstream American press is nearly nonexistent.

And there's also the financial costs of occupation and mass murder. It costs about $1 million per year per soldier in Afghanistan; multiply that by over 50,000, and it becomes imperative why every day the US is in Afghanistan is one day too many.

Thankfully, in all this madness of bailouts, nationalization, "czars," and endless war, there just might be some hope. REAL hope, the message of liberty, peace, and fiscal sanity that spread like wildfire a year and a half ago and will only spread further.

Ron Paul: 'Too early' to decide on 2012

By Michael O'Brien - 11/14/09 04:46 PM ET

It's "too early" to say whether Rep. Ron Paul will run again for president, the Texas Republican said Saturday.

The libertarian congressman told a crowd in Iowa, the starting point for a presidential campaign, that he is simply focused on reelection to the House.

"It’s not on my mind, it’s too early, and I will be filing for my congressional seat,” Paul said in an interview with IowaPolitics.com.

Yeah, it's a shame. But is he talking about Iraq or Afghanistan? During his campaign, he emphasized that it's not Iraq we should be dealing with, but Afghanistan. In that context, we actually should not surprised at all that he's focusing on possibly adding more troops there.

Also, nice unsubtle plug for Ron Paul. I think he would have a much better chance if he wasn't so timid. He reminds me of a polite mouse... which isn't bad by any means. Obviously a presidential nominee's momentum is fueled by media, but Ron Paul needs a more demanding and authoritative presence in my opinion. Which I guess is just better public speaking. I honestly believe this will help him out A LOT. He already has the ideas. I think you get what I'm saying. Anyways, good luck with all that. Also, Barack Obama was only a senator for 2 years before becoming president, so in theory, if Rand Paul gets elected senator in 2010, he might have a chance in 2012 if his pappy doesn't go for it.
