After being released by the Heat, could
Shaun Livingston be the next backup PG
in Phoenix?
Just two weeks after signing with the Phoenix Suns, point guard Dee Brown has been released from the team.
His release brings the Suns' roster back down to 12 players, one shy of the league-minimum 13. No immediate transaction was made to fill the vacant spot, but there is nothing leading to believe it won't be another point guard.
Brown appeared in two games during his two weeks with Phoenix. He scored a total of five points, three at Oklahoma City in 13 minutes, and two the next night at Memphis in 15 minutes of court time.
Brown's contract was not guaranteed (though it would've been if he stayed with the team through January 10), allowing the Suns options in case someone else around the league was released or bought out.
That could be the case since the Miami Heat also announced the release of point guard Shaun Livingston, a player the Suns have had their eye on since this summer for his potential.
Before his season-ending left knee injury in 2007 while with the Clippers, Livingston was considered one of the league's top young talents. His first time back in the NBA since his rehabilitation from the injury was spent with the Miami Heat who had him signed to a non-guaranteed minimum contract.
Like Brown's deal with the Suns, Livingston's contract would have become guaranteed at the end of this week if not released by the Heat.
According to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic, the Suns now have a grace period until January 19th before they are required to fill their 13th roster spot to meet the league minimum once again.

Man, that's too bad for D. Brown. I hope another team will give him a chance this season. How many assists did he average while he played for PHX?
George: He didn't really have much of an opportunity. In the two games he played, he logged a total of three assists.
I liked Livingston a lot. And I like the Suns as well. He is definitely young and capable of recovering from that long knee injury, but can his knee handle the pressure of such a quick pace?
Would you consider Livingston a good option for are Suns considering he is injury prone? Also, read that Courtney Sims is another option for the Suns.
Sims is news to me. I'd be surprised if they added another PF-C...they need another true PG on the roster.
Well, whomever Phoenix gets, they deserve a Nash-mentored PG for the future, and so does the league and its fans. You'd think a back-to-back MVP-wielding Nash would be able to pull more strings.
