Layla Grace, the two year old little girl, who captured the hearts of tens of thousands of Twitter users has passed away. The toddler, known as @LaylaGrace, died this morning after battling stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. Not surprisingly, her parents, who've tracked her progress and shared her courageous fight against cancer, on the social networking site, shared the sad news with fans. "Layla went to play with the angels early this morning. Rest in peace precious Layla. 11/26/2007 - 3/9/2010."
Layla's death didn't come as a huge surprise to her parents or her 42,000 plus loyal Twitter followers. Despite, her recent turn for the worse, her mom and dad have continued to update well-wishers on their little girl's status. "Layla hasn't woken up at all today," Layla's mom tweeted on Sunday. "She slept through diaper & clothes changes, books, & me reading sweet cards that have been sent to her." Then another update yesterday morning, "Layla is still sleeping. Occasionally she makes noises that indicate she's in pain, but she hasn't woken up in a few days." And as the end neared, her mom tweeted for the last time while baby Layla clung to life, "Please continue 2 pray for peace for Layla. Her dad is in her room right now talking to her & comforting her. She is not doing well at all."
Layla Grace was just a little girl from Texas battling a big bad disease. But it was her parents dedication, undying love, and raw emotion that pulled at so many Twitter user's heartstrings and made her an overnight celebrity on the Internet. Layla Grace made such an impact on the Twitter community #RIPLaylaGrace is currenlty among the top three trending topics.

I just saw your site last night but prayed for her all doing the night. I am so sorry. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Layla Grace has touched many lives in her short time here on earth.... she will continue to touch many lives as I know she will live on in our hearts. God Bless The Marsh Family. Thank you for sharing Layla with us. She has forever changed me as a Mother, as a Wife, and as a human being! Lots of prayers and Love! Stacy
As a former Examiner, I have to say that you are one sick bitch for using little Layla Grace in order to make money. She did not have a twitter or use it to become famous. Her parents used to update friends on how she was doing. You are monopolizing on a family's tragedy in order to make money. There is no excuse for it at all. On behalf of all parents of sick kids, this is sick and wrong and entirely inappropriate. Cashing in on a person tragedy like this is just not morally justifiable.
My heart goes out to the family of Layla Grace..a child should never know such pain. I hope that they have the support system to get them through this horrible loss! They will be in my thoughts and prayers.
You are sick: the family wanted this publicity. Hell, they were on Ryan Seacrest's radio program not too long ago. Instead of getting angry at Examiner, be happy that more people are hearing about this illness. This is what the family wanted, awareness of Neuroblastoma.
you are making money off of a dead kid. not cool. not justifiable. not right. her parents did not want click hungry profiteers using their baby to make bank. if you are doing this for awareness then donate what you earn off this story to her fund.
I hadn't even heard of this at all. Thanks for sharing this. I cried reading your article. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't read this article.
Thank you all for your comments. As a mother of a toddler I am highly offended that anyone would suggest this article was written for any purpose other than to honor this precious little girl. I, like many Twitter followers, was deeply moved and saddened to follow Layla's story and to learn of her passing. As a mother, I can not imagine the heartache and the strength you must have to get through such an experience. I respect your suggestion to donate to such a wonderful cause, and, though it is not typically my style to make such things public, I have donated to Layla in my own toddler's name. I hope readers of this story and this column will do the same.
I know how examiner works. I know how examiners write. As soon as Layla Grace started trending on google, examiners started writing about her in order to generate clicks. However, some respect for the situation and the child needs to be made too.
Thank you for stepping up and donating what you made off of this article to her fund.
