Phil Harris funeral plans, public memorial, and 'Deadliest Catch' special tribute

Funeral plans for Captain Phil Harris have still not been finalized more than four days after the Deadliest Catch star died following a massive stroke.  Reps from Discovery Channel, which airs Deadliest Catch tell Examiner.com, "We actually do not have that information as of yet."  The network does confirm plans for a public memorial service are in the works, but the specifics including where or when it will be held have not been released yet.

Captain Phil Harris suffered an on-the-job stroke while off-loading his fishing vessel, Cornelia Marie, on January 29. The 53 year old died Tuesday, February 9 several days after his deckhand sons said their father was making progress in his recovery. Since then, there has been little information released about services to remember Phil Harris. In his five seasons on Deadliest Catch, Harris became suddenly famous as the easy-going boat captain on the Emmy-award winning reality show.

In a message on its website, Discovery Channel again thanked fans, "...For the tremendous outpouring of support in the aftermath of Phil's passing. Your kind messages on discovery.com's message boards are overwhelmingly touching and we are passing everything along to Phil's sons, Josh and Jake Harris."

In addition, Discovery Channel announced it will celebrate the late Captain with a special Deadliest Catch marathon.  The first two hours will be a best-of from the series' fourth season which will include some of Captain Phil Harris' greatest moments.  The Deadliest Catch marathon will air Saturday, February 20 between noon ET and 3 am ET/PT.  A special tribute show is also in the works, but no air date has been announced.

Discovery Channel confirms Deadliest Catch Season six, which Phil will be featured in, returns in April.

Phil Harris "easygoing"? I love the guy, and he was my favorite on that show, and I already miss him terribly. But "easyoing" does NOT come to mind when describing him.

Debbie--I had a crush on him, too! I thought he was very sexy. Kind of reminded me of a "rough and tumble" version of the actor Sean Bean. Definitely a cool guy to have a "celeb crush" on. An amazing man.

For the whole CM crew, especially Josh and Jake, what a terrible loss this is, but how awesome was it that the world got to see not only what a great Captain Phil Harris was, but an even better father to Josh and Jake. Josh, Jake, I thank you for sharing your fathers life with the world and I hope you are honored to be able to call Capt. Phil Harris your dad, he was an awesome man, and all of us will miss him. I hope to see you both on future seasons someday sitting in your dads chair watching your deckhands haul pots full of red king and opies. Rest easy Capt. Phil.

Condolences to Phil's friends and family. When I heard of Captain Phil's death it was like a friend had died. I was surprised by my emotions. The viewers have grown to know and care about all of the Deadliest Catch boat families. Phil will be greatly missed. May God bless Phil and his sons.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of captain Phils passing. He was such a larger than life kind of guy and will be surely missed by many. My heart felt sympathy goes out to Josh And Jake and their family and the crew. My Dad had a stroke also. I feel you. May God bless you all and give you strength. I would tell you guys to quit smoking but I haven't yet either. We all need to.

Been away and returned to learn of your Dad's passing. My most sincere condolences. I truly enjoyed his determination and undaunting will. I suppose it was almost to a fault when it came to his health. That was who he was and how he chose to live his life and nothing short of that would suffice. It was apparent the only thing that he loved more than crab fishing were his boys. My heart goes out to you as I know of the blessing and the loss. Heads high, hearts scarred,forward...always forward. Love never dies. Be safe, like he would want you to be.
