Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger grand marshall of Rose Bowl Parade; begins media tour

The Rose Parade is no stranger to celebrity grand marshals. This year, the annual New Year's Day tradition was led by a man who became an instant celebrity and true American Hero in nothing more than a stressful, yet heroic minute. Captain Chesley "Sully Sullenberger III, aka "The Hero on the Hudson" led the 2010 parade in Pasadena Friday.

The US Airways pilot, his wife, and two children waved to millions of cheering and thankful Americans as they rode the parade route in a vintage Pierce Arrow.

It was last January 15, 2009 when Captain Sullenberger and his crew skillfully landed the ill-fated jet on the chilly Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 people on board.

Since his heroic flight Sully has had a whirlwind year including the writing of a book, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, media interviews, public appearances, Congressional speeches, and getting back into the air.

But things are about to get a little more hectic. Sullenberger is the subject of an upcoming hour long special to air on TLC based on the flight that propelled him to international stardom. The documentary "Brace for Impact" will air nearly a year to the day after that fateful flight. Ahead of the documentary Sullenberger will go on a quick media tour including making appearances on "Live with Regis and Kelly" and likely other talk and morning shows as the documentary premiere and the first anniversary of the "Miracle on the Hudson" near.

You deserve all the respect you have earned Captain Sully! You make me proud to be an American. You have shown that there are still some people of great character in the airline industry; despite all the cutbacks and problems. Since the airlines can't pay you what you are worth; I'm happy for you & your family that other folks are giving you wonderful opportunities! You are a blessing!
