Local man to run across America for local center

As Forest Gump said, "... for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. ... For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going."

That is what Bruce Johnson, a local Elgin, Illinois resident, decided to do, but this run is for a particular reason. He is taking on this run across America to raise money for Elgin's Community Crisis Center.

Johnson said he runs for the center because he knows what it's like to have nowhere to turn to in a time of need and to also struggle to make a better life for yourself.

Johnson will begin his run on January 15 from Jacksonville, Fl and arrive in Morro Bay, CA by April 15. Stops along the way include; Montgomery, AL, El Dorado, AR, Wichita Falls, TX, Magdalena, NM, and Prescott, AZ.

To kickoff Johnson's United States Run, a send off party and benefit will take place Friday January 8, 2010 at Elgin's Douglas Street Sports Bar and Grill [231 Douglas Ave. Elgin, IL 60120] beginning at 5 p.m. The Reverends, Elgin's own Rock and Blues Band, will provide the entertainment.

Cover charge for the event is $5.00, which will go toward the run. Individual steps can also be purchased for $12.00.
