International Arts of Fashion Symposium comes to Drexel University

Our city’s fashion lovers are still riding the high from last week’s Philadelphia Fashion Week  festivities, many of whom are asking when is it coming back? We don’t have the answer for that quite yet; however there is a new show in town to satisfy our craving for fashion fever. The International Arts of Fashion Foundation's 2009 Symposium will take Drexel University by storm October 24-28.

The Symposium will be five days of fashion feted fabulousness with Master Classes taught by world renowned designers, professors, and artists affiliated with the likes of  Fendi, Hermes, Lanvin,  and Levi’s. The cost to attend one of these 4 day, 8 hour classes is $875; which is nominal compared to the opportunity to work side by side with any one of these internationally recognized experts. Not to mention that this could be your once in a lifetime opportunity to work with a designer who is showing in Paris Fashion Week as we speak, Aurore Thibout, or former Fendi fur fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello. The four classes are:

Fashion Surface Design within Textile - Directed by Aurore Thibout and Laurence Teillet
Fashion Design within Accessories - Directed by Anthony Vaccarello and Arnaud Michaux
Fashion Design within Womenswear - Directed by Christian Wijnants and Tom Van Dorpe
Fashion Design within Couture - Directed by Matthieu Blazy and Julie Perrin

In addition to the Master Classes offered, there are numerous other noteworthy events including seminars, panel discussions, a design showroom, and a runway show and awards ceremony for the International Fashion Show Competition.

The competition began with 500 applicants and the winners will be announced at the runway show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Wednesday October 28, 2009. Contestants from all over the world submitted themselves to the competition which consists of two rounds and requires the designers to submit designs of a capstone collection; then create two of the three garments or accessories for the runway show. The judge panel consists of representatives from renowned fashion and design schools such as Drexel University, Parsons the New School for Design, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and Fashion Institute of Technology.

Tickets can be purchased for the fashion show only for $150, or for a five day pass for $350 (student $125). The pass will get you in to all the festivities including the runway show held with the support of Ykk Corp of America featuring the designs of Amy Sarabi, Chelsea Snyder, and Julianne Thibodeaux. For more information on the Debut Runway Show go to AoF DEBUT-SERIES 2009 and for ticket information go to AoF SYMPOSIUM 2009.
