Check out the Google Doodle of the day. Look familiar?
Google is celebrating the birth of the American impressionist painter Mary Cassatt with a Cassatt-inspired Google logo.
A fitting and lovely tribute to a woman whose tender yet unsentimental paintings of women and children have captivated museum-goers for years, it's also a welcome change from Google's normally bold and colorful illustrations.
Mary Cassatt was born on May 22, 1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania and died near Paris, France on June 14, 1926. She was 82.
The Mary Cassatt painting in the Google logo is "The Child's Bath" from 1893. It is owned by the Art Institute of Chicago.

Not only are her works beautiful but what I find inspirational is she went to Europe to study and follow her dream in the 19th century. How rare and wonderful.
thats so cute how google is celebrating her birthday :]<3
I live in Switzerland and wonder if any of her paintings are exhibited here?
Karen:
WHO did the Google doodle? Which one of Google's minons?
its nice and cool and im 10
I love this painting, so I was so glad to see it being used in today's Google Doodle. Funny, though...the only place I've ever seen this painting is in the movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off LOL!
hey it's julie's friend shana and i'm 10 too ssswwwwwwweeeeettttt!!!!!!!! i'm going to sv middle school
Lovely drawing. I, too, have seen the painting in Ferris Bueller's day off... but other places besides. I enjoy seeing all the different Google Doodles for special (and esoteric) occasions!
Thank you Google, thank you Karen Dawson you did a great job for us to know Mary Cassatt's work.
Mary Cassatt is my favorite artist. Thanks Google for making my day. A copy of "The Child's Bath" is hanging in my daughters room.
It was the first picture I used to decorate her nursery. Thanks again for sharing her artwork with the world and showcasing such a wonderful and talented artist.:)
Mary, the guy at Google that does the doodles is Dennis Hwang. I think he's actually their webmaster or something, but the doodles are probably what he's most known for.
I'm not sure that her work is in Ferris Beuller. You are probably thinking of Seurat's Sunday In the Park. A lot of her work is on display at Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the museum dedicated to the works of the Impressionists.
But I am celebrating- she has been one of my favorite artists for 20 years, and her life is really inspirational. For a woman at that time to buck tradition and follow her heart to Paris is incredible. She's a master at combining patters, as seen in this example. Happy birthday Mary!
hace algunos años que vi por primera vez esta pintura del baño y quede impactada del parecido de la niña del cuadro con mi hija es preciosa la obra
How beautiful to create this particular doodle! At first I knew it had to be the result of a clever and devilishly cute daughter who knows how I adore her work! Alas, not so, but thrilled none the less. Keep up the doodles!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
you are so talented
What a lovely surprise--you made me look up some samples of her tender yet strong paintings. How hard Mary had to work--the boys (including her own father) didn't welcome her work!
First saw Mary's work in France about 10 yrs ago at the American Impressionists exhibition near Giverny (home of Monet). I was immediately struck by the beauty and tenderness of her subjects and her painting style. Good to see Google giving her the accliam she so richly deserves.
Loved the idea. Thumbs up for Google!
When I saw the GOOGLE artwork for the day I had to do a double take! I first saw this drawing in a story or poem as the illustration over 30 years ago, as a child in my favorite Childcraft Book. WOW! This brought back great memories.

Google is always great. Exception made to the contest "Ideas to change the world. We have no answers about what is happening. Where are the ideas? This was a good subject you could write
about. Perhaps you can get some information. We can´t.
happy b-day
I heard she was a peadophile and judging by some of her pictures, those claims could be justified. . . .
I just visited the Art Institute of Chicago 2 weeks ago... and I remember seeing that painting. Thank you for making my day!
