Tonya Gross Millinery
Good news is in store for those who believe that hats are a lost art in modern day fashion. Head-wear was once indeed a mainstay staple for many individuals. Those days have long past when modern styles became more relaxed. But what is a girl to do when she is in the mood to accessorize in an innovative way? Queue in Tonya Gross, a Chicago based designer who is making lavish couture hats for those who love fun, sexy, accessories.
Local millinery (hat) designer Tonya Gross is conjuring up head-wear, "for individuals who think outside the (hat) box," as it says on her site tonyagrossmillinery.com.
TG, as it refers to her throughout the site, designs urban and couture head wear for those who take their own stand on fashion. Her designs are artistic and reminiscent of vintage styles. She takes pride in using bold colors, unique fabrics, and recycled materials.
This Michigan born designer is making a name for herself at fashion shows throughout Chicago. Her love for hats started in the thrift stores in her hometown. There she found odd creations that were the perfect accompaniment to her lavish hairstyles of the 80s. After her search for interesting hats came up empty, TG left her career and started making her own hats.
She uses traditional millinery materials for her designs and combines them with her view of making couture hats that do not remind individuals of past loud over-the-top fashions.
Her page offers tips for matching the perfect hat with your particular head shape. She outlines different hat styles that she designs. Prices start at under $200, which is reasonably priced considering the custom-made quality.
Even if hats are not part of your normal accessorizing routine, Tonya Gross’ designs can add a luxe look for way lower than most designer prices.

It is great to see Tonya Gross Millinery profiled here! I'm into hats, and was devastated when Linda Campisano left 900 N. Michigan - however, at about that time I was lucky enough to find Ms. Gross, who was just starting out. I've purchased a number of hats from her - she even made one to my specifications for a wedding - I showed her the dress I planned to wear, and she designed a great hat to go with it. I highly recommend her work.
You seem to be very insightful. Keep up the great work.
