Heeled, open-toed metallic shoes (shown above) are
good for formal, dress-up occasions.
Yessssss!
I’ve looked around, checked with some sources, and am happy to report that metallic shoes are in [again] this spring.
Metallic shoes are not only getting both thumbs up, but they can be also found virtually anywhere. From Target in Towson Place to Ma Petite Shoe in Hampden, no matter where they were found, there are some general ideas to keep in mind when rocking a pair of oh-so-fun bright and shiny shoes.
Don’t
• Couple the shoes with clothes that are equally as bright up top. You may appear clown-like and potentially blind people.
• Wear a busy, multiple patterned dress or outfit with the shoes. Again, you may be a walking eye sore without intending on it.
• Accidently match the shoe with the wrong color scheme. For example, a brown skirt and silver metallic shoes most likely weren’t meant to go together.
• Coordinate with multiple fabrics or textiles. For example, any colored metallic shoes with a fur coat, lace top, and leather pants are just way too much “style.”
Do
• Try pairing the shoes with bold, classic colors like black, white, khaki, and navy for a more refined look. The more basic the outfit, the more pop your shoes will have.
• Think of a matching accessory, maybe a necklace, bracelet or earrings that, from the waist up, could complement your shoes. This allows the viewer’s eye to run naturally from head to toe.
• Think about your mood and what feels most comfortable on a particular day. If you aren’t feeling like stepping it up, then don’t do it. People tend to notice and comment on metallic or shiny shoes, so it’s good to be ready for all kinds of feedback.
Where are you going for shoes these days? Leave a comment and let Baltimore know where you think other people should go around town and what shoe you’re wearing or wanting – regardless of whether it’s ‘in’ or not.
