Losing weight is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. Fad diets are everywhere and so are the shortcuts including pills, surgery, and new products that claim overnight fixes.
As one who battled obesity all of her life, I decided I was not even going to try to lose weight until I was finished having kids. Since that was finalized almost two years ago with the birth of my youngest child, this past summer I set the excuses aside and got started.
I am not 65 pounds lighter.
I wanted to try NutriSystem or Jenny Craig, but the programs were just too expensive. I also knew I would not attend the Weight Watchers meetings. I would always have an excuse. So my husband and I put our own program together using frozen dinners for portion control, and committing to daily exercise. With each other as accountability, we set out on a life-changing weight loss journey.
We are not ones to go to the gym so we invested in a treadmill first. We now have a treadmill and an elliptical so we can vary our routine and we have the added accountability of exercising in the evening after the kids are in bed.
We put our machines in front of a TV so we would not get bored. Somehow a 60-minute workout is not near as difficult when you are being entertained at the same time.
While it has not been easy, getting the weight off has been well worth the effort.
If you are making weight loss a priority in the upcoming year, I would encourage you to do it slowly and carefully with the goal of a lifestyle change rather than just immediate results. If this stay-at-home mom of three little ones can do it, so can you!

Nice to finally hear a real success story. I think most weight loss is basically exercise, exercise, exercise. Thanks for sharing it.
I have struggled with my weight for the better part of the last 6 years. I have absolutely no problem losing it (Weight Watchers has always been my method), but keeping it off is another story. It's frustrating. For me, it's more of a mental challenge, than physical. When my mind is in the right place, I am in a good weight zone, but when it's not, I start gaining immediately.
