Yard House in Waikiki is an unexpectedly kid-friendly restaurant

The Yard House in Waikiki is usually thought of as a great place to watch sports and drink beer, but it is surprisingly family-friendly, and a great option for eating out with kids.

Located in the heart of Waikiki (Lewers Street), Yard house has an extensive menu for adults, but also has a pretty good kid's menu (for kids 12 and under). All items on the kid's menu are $7.95 and include a 12 page activity book, a drink, main entrée, side dish, and a whole fruit strawberry bar. The entrée choices are fish and chips, buttered noodles, grilled cheese sandwich, all beef hot dog, pizza, chicken strips, mac and cheese, and an Angus beef hamburger. The side dish options are fries, fresh fruit, broccoli with cheese sauce, mashed potatoes, jasmine rice, or a green salad.

It's not just the menu that makes it kid-friendly, but the ambiance as well. With music and sports playing on the TVs, there is a nice amount of noise in the restaurant (we found it perfect for drowning out the shrieks of our toddler, but not too loud to bother our infant). Yard House also has very large, wide booths, which are perfect for a large family or a wiggly child (tip: ask for a booth next to the open air windows - they overlook a main walkway in Waikiki and the people watching will help keep your kids entertained!).
