Enjoying my calling with Gabriel-then 6 months
As a writer for Burlington’s Examiner, I got selected to write from the perspective of a stay-at-home mom in Burlington, VT. I’m sure there are many of us here, but all of us do it for a different reason. For me, there are many different reasons that I have decided to stay at home. Part of it is to take care of my husband, as in a sense, he is a part of my ministry. I want to make sure I can take care of my children and not miss a single thing. And honestly, I feel that God has called for me to stay home, so that I can fulfill the role that He has called me to do. I am not just a stay-at-home mom, but a keeper of my home.
In the Bible, which is my instruction book for life and the place I go to find wisdom and direction in a chaotic world, we find many instructions to women. One might think of it as an advice column where we don’t have to be afraid of getting bad advice. I believe that all scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. There, I have found my calling. My instruction as a wife and mother.
Titus 2 says that younger women are to be taught by older to “love their husbands, love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.” To me, those are all part of why I am the way that I am. And to me, that means that instead of finding work outside the home, I ought to be a worker at home- otherwise, the word of God would be dishonored (or in the King James version, blasphemed).
Granted, while I have been a Christian for over 10 years now, I do not succeed at all these things. There are many times that I fall far short of the standard that I have in Jesus Christ. Sometimes it feels like I fall more than I stand. But I am thankful that I have a Father in heaven who is most wonderfully patient with me. He is happy to instruct me and correct me. He is quick to forgive when I have turned around from my errors and tell Him that I am sorry.
For some of you reading this, you may find these things to be foreign and peculiar. This may even strike some of you as offensive. I myself often find these things to be wondrously strange. But I know from many trials and errors that my way will lead to failure 100% of the time when it is not lined up with God’s way. God’s way, on the other hand, as unpopular as it may be will ultimately lead to victory. This is my calling, and by God’s grace, I will walk in His way.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

You won't regret tending your children and serving your husband if you keep eternity's values in view. (Such a lovely photo too!)
Thank you for writing this up, I am so thankful to see other moms doing what I am doing and for the same reasons! God bless you and your family!
I really enjoyed reading this. It's such a privilege to be home watching my children grow...not everybody has it, and I cherish it.
Im sure we can all agree that there are indeed some women who cannot stay home. Perhaps they are widowed or their husband has abondoned them...but then there so many woman who are just simply trying to do it all. Work, and have a family...mostly for selfish reasons...money,status,power.
Your right it is a privledge and honor to stay home. Thank you for the thought provoking article..

Absolutely! I agree 100%!!
Very, very true! God's Word (which you're planting in your children) will not return to you void! God is so good. What a fabulous opportunity and gift you have been given to stay at home and minister to your husband and your children.
