Chapel Hills Nursery and Farm in Perry Hall doesn't look like much of a place for kids from the road. But looks can be deceiving. Tucked behind the nursery is a farm or what some might call a petting zoo. It's free and open to the public to explore. For that reason, it's a great alternative for stay-at-home moms who don't have the time or the money to take their whole gang to the zoo. The farm is geared toward kids as young as one with a pig, goats, horses, and turkeys among the animals (see the array of animals in the photo slide show below). Kids are welcome to pet and feed the animals. There's also a beautiful pond filled with large koi fish.
There are also several wooden structures including a boat and school bus that children can climb on and play in. There's a pavalian area that's available for rent and a snowball stand with picnic tables for an afternoon treat.
You'll have to travel up a short gravel path and a large grassy area to get to the petting zoo. Neither make pushing a stroller too easy, so opt for a wagon, a baby carrier or a walking child instead!
