New York's wine industry has in recent years become more and more organized as a tourist draw.
One of the top marketing efforts is the creation of wine trails, essentially alliances among wineries in specific regions to cross-promote the establishments, their products and their scenic points.
Not all of the state's more than 250 wineries are part of a formal trail, some because they are isolated from other such operations, some because they are winemakers but not wine grape growers and, thus, don't need much more than a warehouse to set up shop, not exactly conducive to hosting visitors.
There also is a Beer Trail, which helped expand the "wine trails" listing to a "beverage trail" listing.
The newest such trail is the Hudson-Berkshires Beverage Trail, an amalgam of wineries, a distillery and a brewery.
