The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the last two days have seen nine accidents involving snowplows.Five of the crashes were in the Twin Cities area and the other four were in southeastern Minnesota. The agency is reminding drivers to take extra care around snowplows.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty defended the constitutionality of his power to cut state spending Tuesday, arguing in a brief to the Minnesota Supreme Court that he acted within his authority when he cut funding for a state food program for the poor without legislative approval.Pawlenty is asking the high court to overturn a lower court decision that said he overstepped his authority when he used his unallotment power last summer to cut $5.3 million from a food program for the poor as part of his broader moves after the 2009 legislative session to cancel out a $2.7 billion deficit.

Jacque Jones has returned to the Minnesota Twins, agreeing to a minor league contract.Jones began his major league career with Minnesota in 1999 before joining the Chicago Cubs in 2006. The outfielder's best season came in 2002, when he hit .300 with 27 homers and 85 RBIs while the Twins advanced to the AL championship series.

A $1 billion construction projects package easily cleared the Minnesota Senate on Tuesday, despite a threat from Gov. Tim Pawlenty to veto a bill he called "unaffordable, irresponsible and filled with local projects."The Senate voted 52-14 for the legislation, which would funnel money into college buildings, sports centers, trail projects and bridge repairs.

The snowbanks are getting so high in Minneapolis that the city is banning parking on some streets for the rest of the winter.Minneapolis public works officials will announce the restrictions Wednesday, and they'll take effect the following day. Parking will not be allowed on the even side of the street on all non-snow emergency routes.

Former Minnesota Twins shortstop Greg Gagne has been elected to the team's Hall of Fame.Gagne spent 10 seasons with the Twins and was part of the World Series-winning teams in 1987 and 1991. He'll become the 22nd member of the Twins Hall of Fame when he's inducted Sept. 4.

Nearly five years after Minnesota toughened punishments for sex crimes, Gov. Tim Pawlenty renewed the push Tuesday with a proposal to double prison sentences for some sex offenders.The Republican governor said Minnesota law isn't strong enough on sex crimes.

Former Minnesota basketball forward Royce White has pled guilty in Hennepin County District Court to one count of misdemeanor trespassing and has been ordered to complete 50 hours of community service.White had been charged with three counts of trespassing stemming from an investigation into a laptop theft from a University of Minnesota dorm. The Star Tribune reports that the case will be dropped from his record if he has no further legal problems in the next year.
