Better than Craigslist?

San Diego native Jack Rankin launched www.findiit.org just over three months ago.  www.finditt.org is a website similar to Craigslist; however, Mr. Rankin focused on features that Craigslist cannot support.  Mr. Rankin became frustrated with Craigslist spammers and other scams.  The Findiit solution is monitoring the site and blocking bogus posts by the ftp.  Additionally, Findiit is for United States residents only so spam from entire countries can be blocked, remember the Nigerian Bank scam

While www.findiit.org is not attempting to compete directly against Craigslist but sets itself apart by providing nearly twice as many categories for users.  The business model has been straight forward from the beginning despite numerous pitfalls. Findiit has been growing at over 131% per month with constant growth and new users.  Findiit started generating revenue by reducing fees, compared to Craigslist for posting in certain job posting categories and is expected to grow proportionately with the number of new users.

When asked about pitfalls, Mr. Rankin slapped his forehead and said, “I have learned so much during this half-year project.  The biggest pitfall was the domain name registration process.”  Mr. Rankin had numerous names for the site but was frequently able to only purchase a couple of names before a spider would snag the .net, .com, or .org domain name.  Mr. Rankin understood early on that branding and trademark would be important, he is in the middle of an ICANN dispute against the party that snagged one of his domain names.

Another benefit to Mr. Rankin is the personal satisfaction of getting everything to work.  He starts school at Coleman University next month where he will focus studies on software engineering and electronic security.  Mr. Rankin is especially pleased with the new career path and was able to sell a large portion of his successful commercial and residential cleaning services company to support him during his studies.

Funny...he complains of spam on craigslist and that is where he does all of his free advertising (spam).

    Coleman University? Wow!

I like the site too. Seems to be functional and laid out well. And if they advertise on Cl, who cares, that is what Cl is for. If Cl allows it, then why not? ya know? I hope the site keeps growin'.

Glad to find out the info, but not sure why your font is so large and crowded. Try copying and pasting into a simple text document, reducing the font size for all characters, then copying and pasting back into your article - maybe below the "for more info" part just in case. I know this system is not always user friendly and I discovered that if I avoid Word and Ctrl-X,C and V functions and just use cut, copy, and paste from the Edit menu between and within the text file and this system there are fewer problems. Maybe you already know all this, but just in case. ;-) Keep up the good work! I'll check out that site.

Being that Craigslist has become very difficult to find anything real on, I am very open to this new site. Good job. I just looked and posted an ad. It really does operate the same as Craigslist does. And from San Diego? Nice, finally a site coming from a local!

I've used this site a billion times and every single reply I've gotten from one of my ads on FI was legit, and like half of CL ones were legit (trying to sell a car). I suggest posting your ad on BOTH FI and CL, you'll get an equal amount of hits from both...

I have seen this site spammed up and down Craig's list. It's nice to see how he doesn't like spam but wil spam everyone else to advertise his site.

I find it a nice site. They featured my pet on their site when it was lost and did not charge me to have the ad highlighted. If he advertises on CL, who cares, that is what CL is for. Sorry, but maybe he used his ability to spam on CL as a reason to block it on his own site. I think he is very smart. Again Jack, thank you for the featured listing and I hope to bring home my bird! (I see you did that for a few others too).

Love the layout of it, the way it was displayed and the sections it has. I just posted a couple ads and it was streamline, just like cl. Well, we look forward to this growing.

I found that Mr.Rankin's site goes farther in content and divers- ability then Craig's List does. The site welcomes the input and interests of all types of people regardless of their interests. Mr.Rankin also encourages his viewers to flag anything that appears to be a scam and takes preventative measures to limit postings that are spam.

Nice job Jack! I never expected to see what we have so far of the website. It is amazing the commitment you have shown for this project of yours. I cannot wait to see it get big. whoever wrote the article needs to expand on it a little more. :)

After just 3 months www.Findiit.org is going great guns. I have never seen a classified ads site take off so quick and have so much content. Jack is obviously doing something right with his marketing background. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Great job on the site. Looks like it is jumping off in San Diego. I am in Orange County and have posted and told some friends. I cannot wait until this is big enough to become that alternative site.
