Collect your favorite Web content in one place
Central Ohio start-up Toobla officially launches its Web content aggregator for the public this week. Toobla is a Web application that makes it easy to collect, manage and share Web content - video, audio, games, sites, even social media entries - in one place.
Founded in 2008 by a couple of Silicon Valley veterans, Toobla - and its CEO Brian Link - is headquartered in Columbus. Toobla has received funding from the TechColumbus TechGenesis fund, the TechColumbus Pre-Seed Fund (formerly the Regional Commercialization Fund), Ohio TechGROWTH and investments from Ohio TechAngels.
Toobla hopes to become the online epicenter for serious surfers with features like:
- Toobla folders can hold any number of digital media items: web page bookmarks, videos, images, documents, games, music, and any kind of embeddable application or widget.
- Collections of content can now be shared via a single URL, through e-mail, or on Twitter, Facebook or other any social network. Moreover, your Toobla content can be shared as an embedded widget on blogs or on social networking sites.
- Experienced users can also create and publish “mashups” using Toobla.
Toobla has been in Beta testing for several weeks; many Central Ohio fans of the company received pre-launch accounts for testing and comment. To learn more – and sign up for your own Toobla account, visit www.toobla.com
BTW: Toobla is not just a quirky string of alphabet soup like many start-up names…Toobla derives from the Latin term “tabula rasa” or blank slate. In this case, the tabula is not a slate but a “tube” (TV/multimedia). In this case, the “toob” supports a user-generated media library.
