David Arhulets sold Starland out in minutes.
With David Cook confirmed to perform at the Starland Ballroom on July 30th (tickets go on sale Friday at noon), we thought we'd take a look at the history of American Idol contestants and New Jersey's most popular concert nightclub.
Constantine Maroulis: Before the TONY nominations and stints in regional Jesus Christ Superstar productions, Constantine Maroulis roared out of the fourth season of Idol and into the hearts of teenaged girls (and cougars) everywhere. His first Starland performance was a mega-event: fans tried to camp out at the venue, while others did everything they could to score backstage passes or coveted meet-and-greet opportunities. He held a CD signing at Freehold Raceway Mall in conjunction with the Starland event, much to the delight of the hundreds of fans who waited on line for hours. Constantine has returned to Starland several times since his inaugural performance; after all, he is a Jersey native.
Elliott Yamin: Idol's fifth-season star is almost a household name at this point; his songs "Wait For You" and his recent smash "Fight For Love" are pop radio staples. But on May 19, 2007, less than 500 fans showed up for the singer's Starland performance. Not to worry, though -- online reviews of the show called it "outstanding," and his latest release, Fight For Love, has proved Yamin has a few more tricks left up his sleeve.
Taylor Hicks. Over 1,000 people were on April 11, 2007 when "Gray Charles" himself took the Starland stage. Like Yamin, Hicks was a season five contestant; unlike Yamin, he hasn't been able to return to the stardom bestowed upon him in the months following his win.He is currenntly performing in the touring version of Grease in the "Teen Angel" role.
David Archuleta. Without a doubt, the biggest Idol commotion ever created at Starland belonged to David Archuleta. "Archie" visited Starland earlier this year, following a general-public onsale that saw every last ticket gobbled up in minutes. In the scalping arena, some crooks demanded more than $800 a ticket. However, come show day, the gracious singer showed his appreciation to hundreds of fans by holding an hour-long meet and greet and photo session and performing onstage for more than two hours.

No surprise that David Archuleta sold out the show in minutes and created such a stir. And of course he spent time with his fans...that's David! His shows are fabulous! He's a GREAT live performer.
David is the most gracious & sweetest ever! He soldout many of his solo concerts in minutes! Also love Elliot and like Taylor and glad Cook's gonna be there!. But mega EWW to greasy constant what's his name.

Are you trying to say that Hicks is not a star but Yamin is? Oh really? Nothing againist Yamin, I liked him, but I think Taylor is about 4 times busier. And he is incredible.
Was at a live show of his besides Grease a few weeks ago, it was sold out and very, very good.

There is nothing gross about Constantine Maroulis. If you took a minute to find out about him, you'd realize he is one of the classiest and most talented of all the Idol contestants - at least the professionals seem to think so. A Tony nomination for best actor in a musical on Broadway pretty much validates that. Why not say something nice about someone you like instead of being so insulting,"john".
Constantine is not only mega-talented (one of 5 Tony nominee's for Best Actor(and singer)this year, but he is truly one of the sweetest entertainers ever. When I saw him in Rock of Ages recently, he stood outside in the wind and rain for nearly 2 hours after his 2nd show of the day until every fan who was waiting for him (yes, teens and cougars but plenty of grandpas, dads and their sons as well) got pics, hugs and autographs, even though he had 2 performances the next day. He actually took the time to talk personally to every one in the crowd. He's definitely a class act.

David Archuleta has the best voice ever with the crazy vocals, sweetest and smoothest tone. His personality is beyond owesome for someone his age too. He is a true world super star. I can never get enough of his singing.
Taylor Hicks not a star?! You have to be kidding. Live under a rock, do you?! There is more to stardom than a radio hit. Seek Taylor out in a live performance of his own music. Not hard to find out where they are if you go on his professional site. No one can top him in live performance. No one! And busy? He hasn't stopped since his Idol win.

Every performance he gives outside of Grease is a sellout. People love Taylor and his amazing stage energy. You can't sit down at his concerts, you just gotta dance. He has had to work twice as hard as the next AI because the execs at AI didn't want him to win so they pushed Daughtry. When Taylor won The Powers That Be decided to promote Daughtry as hard as they could and conveniently 'forgot' to promote Taylor as much as they could have. daughtry got Taylors cd Black Friday release date. Daughtry had all his singles played on the radio 24/7 and Taylor was apparently not allowed on the radio stations play list by his (haha)'management' Taylor has struggled SO hard but has emerged successful and triumphant to all his millions of middle america fans who buy his 'own label' music at shows where he cleans up and keeps all the profit. Tay is astute businessman unlike Daughtry owes no money to AI.

David Archuleta is the BEST OF THE BEST. He has a great voice and is very sensitive in his singing. He moves me!! I also like Taylor Hicks, I voted for him also on Idol. We know who are the top 2, Now don't we guys. Will be seeing David this weekend CANNOT WAIT!!!!
Elliott's been underrated since the start but he is an AMAZING live performer. If you think you know him from Idol, you don't -- his confidence has grown leaps and bounds and he's got the most energetic, passion-filled, soulful performances I've seen in a long time. He's got an incredible voice and a fantastic band.
I was one of those lucky ones that snatched up tickets to see David Archuleta at the Starland Ballroom.
The energy was intense ~ and the fans broke the sound barrier. David called the crowd one of a kind.
He connects with his fan in way that hasn't been seen in decades.
He'll go really far. Seeing him LIVE ~ doesn't compare to what you see through a television screen or computer monitor.
I'm seeing him 5 times this summer ~ and he's worth every cent.

David Archuleta is amazing, I've never connected with a male artist like I have him. The guy have got an amazing voice and his personality is almost too nice.... but that's a good thing. David Archuleta is everything I stride to be in my life. God Bless him, he deserves it.

Shocked that one more uninformed writer posts about the success, or lack of, of Taylor Hicks. I consider Taylor the best of the winners of American Idol. He has the whole entertaining benefits of a talent that covers both stage and concert venue, and writers who do not do their homework fail to portray his success that he has made on his own efforts. How many of you investigate the facts around Taylor's aftermath of AI? He was given a bum rap all the way through. Simon was vindictive because the public voted for Taylor. All this negativity by him and management of AI did not do right by Taylor. He deserved better.
But...in the meantime, go to one of his concerts or stage performance in Grease. You will be writing a different article at that time!!!
I was at that show!! OMG When he came on stage the noise blew out my ears. He was amazing that night and it was packed inside. The ballroom holds 2200 people and they all screamed at the top of their lungs!! It was an amazing show and he was INCREDIBLE!!!! Shocking to see was that their were far more college aged girls there than 12-16yr olds. I thought it I would be one of the few 22 year olds but was happy to find others at the bar totally in love with him!! :) His fans are awesome and he is the most talented singer I have ever heard!
David Archuleta is beyond words awesome! He is an amazing singer live and in pretty much every review that critics make of his concerts they always say he was really good. Love David and his amazing character.
I was at David Archuleta's concert. I happened to be next to a woman who didn't know much about his music. By the end of the show, she was singing his praises like the rest of us die hard fans!! David was made to perform live. There aren't too many artists out there who sound better live than on their CD. David is a real gem! I can't wait to hear more music from him!
I was one of those lucky 500 people who got to hear Elliott Yamin at the Starland.. He was more than awesome. Elliott came on stage it was like a cannon going off when he sang "Alright" a song off his first CD. Never forget it . Elliott!!! Come back to the Starland!! I want to experience that all over again!!
I wish I had seen David Archuleta at the Starland Ballroom. I went to the Lancaster concert which was a bit closer for me and ended up trapped in a balcony with no view of David at all! But he sounded great. BTW - David's Fan Pack is out on iTunes with Touch My Hand video, his co-write Zero Gravity which was the hit of his last tour, and his unplugged cover of Vanessa Carlton's 1000 Miles (one of David's frequent concert encores).
I recently attended an ELLIOTT YAMIN concert in Richmond VA and he was totally awesome.
It was packed & his voice was like liquid gold....smooth and silky. My how he has grown as a performer since his idol days :) Left us all wanting more...
David Archuleta all the way! I've followed him from Idol to every single day on the www.davidarchuletafanblast.com website! His voice is awesome. His new X-mas Album this year is gonna blow us away...I can't wait !!!
I'm so looking forward to seeing David Archuleta next month on tour. David is emerging as one of American Idol's most successful artists, both here at home and abroad, and he's only 18! It will be exciting to watch his career unfold over the coming years.
