Star Trek: The Mobile Game garners positive reviews

Star Trek: The Mobile Game from EA Mobile, available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, gives a Star Trek twist to an old-fashioned arcade-style shooter format. Priced at $2.99 for a month's play time or $6.99 for unlimited play, this is one of a number of new movie tie-ins that fans can run on their favorite gadgets. The game story has nothing to do with the movie; the player controls the Enterprise and fights various enemy ships such as the Bird of Prey in the screenshot.

Three sets of opponents--Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians--offer nine levels each, or the "quick play" option selects a random level for the player. Voiced characters--Spock, Kirk, Chekhov, Sulu, Scotty and Uhura--provide brief mission updates. Tacticals include torpedoes, shields and phasers; a tractor beam slurps up health, friendly ship alliances and the like. The vertically-scrolling game is controlled using tilt, touch, and a virtual stick. Star Trek: The Mobile Game, a descendant of Galaga and similar arcade games of the 1980s (you are steering your ship while fighting), has been positively reviewed by several game sites, including Chessmess's World of Star Trek Games and TrekMovie.com.
