The initial reports that Stanford guard Jeremy Green had been arrested in connection with a campus disturbance apparently were true, as the San Jose Mercury News reported Thursday.
According to the Mercury News, Green, who was penciled in to be the Cardinal's starting shooting guard, was arrested over the weekend at a campus dormitory on suspicion of felony domestic violence.
No charges have been filed yet, but the case is under investigation and Green, a sophomore, has been suspended from the team indefinitely.
The Mercury-News reported that deputies from the University's Department of Safety were called to the Mirrielees apartaments, which are on campus, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning on reports of assault, battery and domestic violence.
Bill Larson, a spokesman for the University Safety Department, told the Mercury-News, "The victim suffered injuries as a result of an assault, and a suspect was arrested."
Green was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, and was later released.
Green attended Tuesday's intrasquad scrimmage, but remained in sweat clothes and did not participate.
Green's mother, Aleesha Green, told the Mercury-News, "I do expect that he'll be back (this season)."
During Thursday's Pac-10 media day, Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins mentioned Green as one of the players he expects to contribute needed scoring this season, although he did not comment on the suspension.
It is another serious setback for the Cardinal, which had lost freshman Andy Brown, who had torn his anterior-cruciate ligament in the first practice. Green's status presumably will be dependent on the results of the investigation, but with him gone, the Cardinal is down to eight scholarship players. That includes Josh Owens, who was held out of Tuesday's scrimmage and whose status is uncertain.

Comments
It's important to note that no charges have been filed against Green, and the suspension was a default action until more information surfaces.
