Dwight Powell, a 6-10 center/forward out of Bradenton, Fla., by way of Canada, may be Stanford's top recruiting target, and it appears Harvard and Stanford are the top cotenders for the high school senior.
Powell visited Stanford last month and just completed his visit to Harvard. The Harvard Crimson quoted one Harvard player who was with Powell during his visit as saying, "He left with Harvard and Stanford neck-and-neck."
Powell still is planning to visit Georgia Tech, the third of the three schools he is considering, so it may be more than a two-school competition for Powell, rated the nation's No. 23 recruit for the class of 2010 by rivals.com.
The recruiting competition between Harvard and Stanford is an interesting one, because Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins and Harvard coach Tommy Amaker were the starting backcourt on the 1986 Duke team that got to the NCAA Tournament championship game.
