Just like in 2009, there will be a Kinser driving for Tony Stewart Racing on the World of Outlaws tour. But in a twist, it will be 20-time series champion Steve Kinser who will be replacing his son Kraig in the TSR team next season. Steve Kinser told Speed’s Robin Miller that he will be taking over the No. 20 car next season, while his son takes over his spot at Steve Kinser Racing.
"Yeah, Kraig and I are switching rides and he's going to drive for me next season," said Kinser. “Kraig is only 24 and he doesn't have that much experience in sprint cars so I think this will be good for both of us.”
In another ironic move, Steve Kinser will be paired with the driver whose current dominance of the series comes closest to what he has previously accomplished. He’ll be teammates with Donny Schatz, who last year won his fourth consecutive World of Outlaws title along with a fourth Knoxville Nationals victory in a row.
"Yep, it's true, Tony is giving me a great opportunity," Kinser told Speed. "It's a pretty cool deal for an old guy like me and I can't thank Tony enough. The No. 20 car wasn't quite up to snuff this year so I think he wants to see if I can help turn things around."
Bass Pro Shops will continue to provide primary sponsorship for the No. 20 car, while Steve Kinser’s longtime sponsor Quaker State will be an associate sponsor.
"I'm very excited to be back in the family-owned car -- I've had some success while running for my dad (20-time WoO Champion, Steve Kinser) and am confident that 2010 will be a great year for us," Kraig Kinser said in a press release.
