Arch forming orthotic
Experiencing a plateau in endurance training is not uncommon. Typically these road blocks are due to minor injuries that are not initially delt with that go untreated untill they pose serious issues.
One of the most commonly forgotten areas is the sole of the foot, its the base of your entire structure. If ingored, the foot can cause problems relating to everything from shin splints, knee pain, hip pain and low back issues.
A recent study suggests that with the use of orthotics (foot levelers) that one will see a noticable change in performance along with an elimination of many key injuries. One study shows a group tested over a six week period that used custom orthotics. This group showed a 29% to 36% increase in pelvic rotation meaning an increased stride length. The same group also answered a questionnaire saying that they have subsequently noticed reduced fatigue in their training. By simply creating a stronger more durable base, this group was essentially able to take their training to the next level.
While orthotics come in many shapes and sizes it is important to choose the correct one. Make sure you express to the maker exactly what it is your issues are currently and what you hope to use the orthotics for. Whether it be marathon training or for organized sport, such as soccer or basketball, there are orthics that can help increase performance and reduce injury.

Do you have any recommended places to get these? I have a lot of trouble and find that one shoe works better,,,, but would like to wear something besides tennis shoes!
There are definitely differences between the custom and store bought, my best advice is to go get assessed by either a orthopedic sports doctor, or even better a sports chiropractor, who would be able to asses you and tell you exactly what you need.
Getting properly fitted was a huge breakthrough for my knee and foot health.
